In 1974 Jim Stier and his wife Pam went to pioneer the work of YWAM in Brazil. The early days were slow and difficult, but their efforts in that country eventually resulted in substantial growth. They currently work with a staff of over fifteen hundred. During the nineties Jim was the director of YWAM Frontier Missions and the director of the work in the Portuguese world. He also served as the International Director of Evangelism and Frontier missions. Jim served as the International President of Youth with a Mission from 1995 until 2000. At that point he took on the job of Executive Chairman of YWAM International. He served in that role until August of 2004. Currently Jim is the Director of the Americas Field for YWAM. Jim and Pam raised five children in Brazil.

INFORMATION FOR LTS FAMILIES & CHILDREN

MARRIED COUPLES: We highly encourage both spouses to attend the LTS as full-time students if at all possible, as the demands of leadership and the need for leadership understanding are a shared responsibility. Priority will be given space-wise to couples where both spouses are attending the school. The LTS is a University of the Nations course worth 12 credits. There is no provision available during this LTS for a spouse to "sit in" on a class here and a class there, as we are accepting the maximum number of full-time students we can accommodate. It is imperative that each student attend all the classroom and small group sessions, as the learning process will require an integration of all these activities. The LTS is structured differently than most YWAM schools. If a spouse would like to attend the LTS as a full-time student, but feels that the class time plus course work and family demands may be too much to handle, he/she would need to communicate the situation in advance of the start of the school. (Spouses who are unable to attend full-time because of personal health restrictions or due to having an infant or unhealthy child may be able to contract in advance with the school leadership to attend some specific FULL WEEKS or SERIES of teaching. However, they would need to work out child care for the entire time and commit to attend all of the LTS class sessions associated with that speaker or topic. Auditing fees would apply.

SCHOOLING AND CHILD CARE:
Infants: There will be no corporate childcare provided for children under the age of three. In order for both spouses to attend the LTS, parents of infants are encouraged to bring a nanny or partner together with other LTS families for their childcare needs.

Pre-school: We are planning to have a pre-school program available for children ages 3 through 6. The pre-school will be in session during all scheduled LTS class times.

School age children: We are planning to run a sports and activities program during all scheduled LTS class times for children above six years of age as well. This program often proves to be a rich and wonderful time for the children, paralleling some of the experiences their parents are having in the LTS. However, IF SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN REQUIRE HOME-SCHOOLING OR SUPERVISION FOR A SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL CURRICULUM PARENTS WILL NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE TO OVERSEE THEIR STUDIES OUTSIDE OF LTS CLASS TIMES OR BRING ALONG A TUTOR.

NOTE: IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO BRING A NANNY IF YOU HAVE NURSERY AGE CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT OLD ENOUGH TO ATTEND THE PRESCHOOL. IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO BRING A TUTOR IF YOUR CHILD MUST COVER A SPECIFIC CURRICULUM DURING THE MONTHS OF THE LTS.

If you plan for your children to attend the preschool or school-age programs we offer, which run during ALL required LTS class times, it will not be necessary for you to bring a nanny or tutor.

It is our desire to provide quality child care for the various age groups so that the children will be blessed and cared for and so that both parents will be released to attend the LTS. Please pray with us that qualified individuals will volunteer to oversee these programs. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY ENGLISH-SPEAKING OR SPANISH-SPEAKING PEOPLE (PREFERABLY BI-LINGUAL) WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HELPING RUN A PRESCHOOL OR AN EDUCATION/ACTIVITIES PROGRAM FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN, please have them contact: registrar@ywamsdb.org

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE DATES
Please plan to arrive September 25th 2010 and depart no earlier than the morning of December 18th.  LTS registration will be September 26th.  (Please bring your passport with you to Registration). Monday September 27th will be considered the first day of LTS class.  The LTS fees covering food and housing starts September 25th and goes through noon December 18th.  Anyone arriving before or after these dates will need to make alternative arrangements for accommodations at their own expense.

ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE ON TIME FOR THE START OF THE SCHOOL AND STAY THROUGH THE END OF THE COURSE.  Late arrivals or early departures are not acceptable.  This may seem severe, but it is intended to be a protection to you and to the school.  It is important that everyone is present throughout the entire school in order to get God's maximum–from the bonding time at the beginning to the commissioning time at the end.  Thanks for your cooperation.

*NOTE: We recognize that it may be difficult to get the exact flight date you want for your airline reservation.  If you must arrive a few days early we may be able to assist you in securing accommodations at a hotel near the base.  You will be responsible to cover all food, travel and hotel room costs, as LTS fees do not cover early arrivals.   Pre-LTS accommodations will be secured for you only if you contact us FAR IN ADVANCE of your arrival:
E-mail: registrar@ywamsdb.org                       FAX: +1 619 420 1918

Click here to download our arrival form, then fax this back to us.

SCHEDULE & ATTENDANCE:  The LTS schedule will be full and at times very demanding.  We ask that students come with the least amount of outside responsibilities so that they can get the most out of the LTS opportunity.  There will be a balance between classroom lectures, discussion groups, work duties, social activities and personal time.  In addition to working on the LTS Project, there will be periodic exams and required reading to reinforce the learning process.

Because this is a school for leaders, we often receive very legitimate requests for students to be absent from class to lead or participate in ministry opportunities.  However, if we granted these requests, the continuity of school would quickly unravel.  In order to protect the individual student and to protect the integrity of the school, WE DO NOT ALLOW ABSENCES FROM THE LTS CLASS TIMES FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN ILLNESS.  Participants are expected to arrive in time for the start of the school (by September 25th), to stay through the close of the school (departing NO EARLIER than December 18th) and to be present at all LTS class activities each week.  There are a few required weeknight and weekend events during the LTS, and these will be communicated at the outset of the school.  Otherwise, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays are free for optional sessions, ministry or personal time.  The LTS is a University of the Nations course worth 12 credits.

LTS PROJECT:  Habakkuk 2:2  “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it.”
The LTS Project is designed to give an opportunity for YWAM leaders to seek God, define their vision and develop the practical skills to plan, manage and communicate it well.  The Project is one of the most exciting and fruitful elements of the LTS, often bringing new ministries to birth and linking YWAMers together in global networks of friendship and calling.

WRITTEN EXAMS
The Leadership Training School is affiliated with the University of the Nations.  Therefore, in accordance with the Biblical concept of evaluation, there will be periodic examinations throughout the LTS.  Firstly to reinforce the learning process, and secondly to help the staff determine how they can better facilitate the students in assimilating the content of the school.

We recognize that, coming from a broad spectrum of nations, we have diverse educational backgrounds and study habits.  We encourage you to take written notes during the corporate teaching sessions throughout the LTS.  We will provide information for study helps toward the beginning of the school.

Objectives:
One of the objectives of the LTS is to build understanding in how better integrate the six principal areas of YWAM’s calling, producing practical benefits in the lives of each student. The calling and anointing of YWAM are based in Mark 16:15 and Matthew 28:19. We do this through the following outlined approach.

I. The Great Commission and it’s breadth:
    A. To all nations
    B. To all peoples of the earth

II. YWAM is called specifically to:
     A. Evangelism
     B. Training
     C. Mercy Ministry (Relief and Development)

III. The Christian Magna Carta - We believe that every person in the world has the right to:
      1. Hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
      2. Receive the Bible in their mother tongue.
      3. Have a Christian Fellowship nearby and to be free to participate in it, having Bible teaching
and worship together with other Christians.
      4. To have one’s basic needs met for life, food, water, clothing, shelter and health care.
      5. To live a fulfilling life spiritually, mentally, socially, economically, and physically.
      6. To give a Christian Education to one’s children.
We believe that these basic rights are clearly in the Gospel.

IV. Look at the seven mind molders in society that influence the lives of all people, the same that
we are called to as a mission to influence.
      1. Family
      2. The Church
      3. Education
      4. The media and communication
      5. Arts and entertainment
      6. Government
      7. Business

V. Opportunities for short and long term ministry are offered by YWAM in evangelism and mercy
     ministry.

VI. We see ourselves as:
      A. Trail blazers
      B. Pioneers
      C. Colonizes (long term developers)
We function in each of these areas as the Lord leads us, going anywhere at any time.

The LTS is designed to prepare you to effectively develop the vision God is giving you. There will be instruction on spiritual leadership, management principles, and communication, time management, budgeting, personal organization, operations, strategic planning and how to be an effective administrator.

Every nation, all peoples
It is the objective of YWAM to establish a vital ministry in every nation, begin a permanent ministry in every mega city (over 1,000.000) and to see effective evangelism within the many unreached peoples.

Each of you has future objectives that are within YWAM’s vision sighted above. We want your LTS project to be related to the fulfillment of the vision God has given us corporately. Your project should be based on something new, a vision for the future. Something that still awaits faith and obedience to become a reality.
